Jarvis Cocker on tour 2007

LD: Nick Jevons

Sixteen i-Pix Satellite LED fixtures made their mark on the first leg of the new Jarvis Cocker tour – designed by Nick Jevons – as part of a series of live show to promote Cocker’s amazing new solo album, “Jarvis”.

Jevons designed the Satellites into the rig as part of a layer of digital lighting upstage, which also included LED battens, all of which were attached to six 12 ft sections of vertical truss. This shaped the stage and gave it an essential architecture.

The Satellites, along with all the rest of the touring lighting equipment was supplied by HSL.

Jevons has used Satellites on his designs ever since the fixtures became available. He really likes working with all types of LED lightsources and has been integrating lighting and video into his visual designs for the last decade – one of the first LDs to explore this route.

For Jarvis Cocker, he took full advantage of the Satellites’ intense brightness for adding “Little pockets of punch” and other atmospheric effects. He describes them as “Little power houses”, adding that their neat size is perfect for tucking unobtrusively around the rig.

The DMX signal to the Satellites was split, allowing the units to be controlled both by the Maxedia media server run by Jake Jevons, and by Paul Moss who controlled the moving lights and conventionals with an Avolites Pearl Expert.
